Leysin
The village of Leysin, known as the
educational capital of the Alps is blessed with
spectacular views, good ski slopes and an
infrastructure unparalleled in Switzerland. With a
year-round Olympic sized ice skating rink, curling,
indoor and outdoor tennis courts (both carpet and
clay), indoor and outdoor swimming pool, full
football pitch, hiking trails, climbing facilities,
mountain biking trails fitness centre and a full
multi-sports hall for most indoor team games
(basketball, volleyball, etc) there is little to be
wanted that isn’t provided. And don’t forget the
mini-golf, ski runs and “parapenting” (that’s
parachuting off mountaintops!!)
Originally built
as a health centre at the turn of the century, the
qualities for maintaining good personal health are
still present and sought after. Within easy
excursion distances are Montreux (home of the Jazz
Festival), Gruyeres where that great cheese is
produced) Bern, Geneva and Zermatt.
Leysin Ski Area
There are 60 km
of trails, 35 km of ski de fond trails, 6 chairlifts
and 6 cable cars. Less than 45 minutes driving
distance offers good glacier skiing all year at Les
Diablerets.
